Buying dad a birthday present was always a challenge.
“I don’t want anything!” he’d grumble when asked.
But you knew full well he’d be disappointed if you followed his instructions.
So I’d end up having to guess what he’d like.
I’d guess a shirt. (“Did you keep the receipt?”)
I’d guess a tie. (Ditto.)
I’d guess socks, handkerchiefs, tools. (Bad idea – always the wrong brand.)
Never once did I get it spot-on.
Guessing was never a good strategy when it came to dad’s birthday present.
And guessing is never a good strategy when it comes to marketing.
We need to know whom we’re seeking to reach.
Otherwise, we can waste a whole lot of time, effort – and, potentially, money – trying to ‘guess’ our marketing.
Don’t do that to yourself.
Make sure you’re focused on the right niche first.
The rest will follow.
